Dexter Marsh-Taylor is a multidisciplinary filmmaker and mixed-media artist
…from Alameda, California with two separate degrees, one in film production from San Francisco Film School, and another in film studies from University of California Santa Cruz. He uses archival media, slow cinema, and narrative methods to investigate family history, nostalgia, and emotional geography. By contextualizing places and loved ones, Dexter explores the relationships between sentiment and environment.
These films encompass documentary, narrative, and the space in between. He strives to engage with filmic and photography mediums as well as physical documents and memorabilia to reflect on life experiences in hopes of creating relatable stories.
I work really hard on these projects. I also make comedy zines with my friends, and write awkward website biographies in the third person.
